a bit about me

I live in Woodbridge. I have just bought a house here, having moved from Hemel Hempstead, the hub of the universe, as all who have been round the magic roundabout know....

Suffolk is the flat land of fields and tractors, coasts and ferries. the last one is handy, since it is a way to get to my beloved, Menno

I sometimes still sail from Slaughden Sailing club (based in Aldeburgh (see www.aldeburgh-uk.com). I am a member of the club, but I sail a friend's boat - which is a Stella ( http://www.btinternet.com/~stella.association/). I also sail with my Dad. You can see a picture of Nick, and Nick's boat on my photos page. There's also one of Laura and me out sailing in Sea Aster.

As well as singing, I read a lot - just about anything bar Westerns. I did an English degree, so I have loads of books. I also like poetry. I read a lot of fantasy, from Pratchett and Tolkien through Duncton Quest and Silverberg to Orson Scott Card(a recent addition). My favourite serious authors are Eliot and Austen, my favourite fantasy writer Pratchett, Robin Hobb, L E Modesitt, Goodkind, Tolkien, Tom Holt, C S Lewis. I also attempt to write poetry

Other Pastimes

Scrabble - I'm not really really good at this - my current record is two scrabbles in a game - I keep trying to get three, but I just don't have the stamina to play more than one game like that in a row. Also, I can't play chess - but I wish I could As for Trivial Pursuit, why is it that everyone else gets the easier questions? ;-)

Reading - I'm very fond of reading and my Dad says that I could almost set up a second hand bookshop - alternatively, I use the books as insulation. A few months ago, I had the idea of getting them made by someone with a work mate and a jigsaw, then painting them. But I couldn't wait, so I got some flat pack ones from Argos - all curvy, with glass doors here and there. And I have kept the other bookshelf, which isn't entirely satisfactory, since the front door cannot open all the way now - but the thing is almost all full up with books. Other people have DVD addictions, so I suppose it's not too bad. I hope.

I read all sorts of styles, sci-fi to "literature", with the odd bit of non-fiction.. I'm planning to make a database of all the books that I have.

On Newsnet, I read (amongst others) alt.fan.pratchett, alt.books.tom-holt, and alt.books.iain-banks and am also be found on #afp (where I am slightly more vocal than on the newsgroup). More info. on apfers can be found by visiting their webpages afpers homepages I also read alt.autos.volvo - (I am a volvo addict - and still hopelessly seduced by the concept of heated seats and self-defrosting wing-mirrors)

L-Space Now!

Singing - I was in a benefice choir (Rendham and Sweffling) close to where I used to live in Suffolk before. Now I have to decide whether to rejoin that choir or to find another one...

In my working life I am a solicitor. I now work in Ipswich and work in the private client department. This means my work involves wills and inter-vivos planning, deeds of variation and trusts.

Thanks to Kathy, I have found Bruno - the strip should update itself
